Do you believe using the word 'black' or 'white' as in appropriate? Or would it be better if everyone refered to people as African-American and European-American?
I know the ignorance I am going to portray with this next question, but please bare with me...
Are there other cultures besides African that are black? I know their is Jamaican and I was wondering if that was a whole different culture or a subsidary. Please help me with this. I would much appreciate it.

Hmm I think it would be a little better if you did say African American then black , but people use it so much it's not offending, white people, do you call them caucasian? You barely hear anyone refer to eachother's nationality like that anymore, so I think it is actually appropiate in this generation, but I do think it would be better if we can do it the other way.

i think it depends on the people you are with at the time...using their nationality in front of american is the politically correct way of referring to a minority...there are spanish people that look black and you wouldn't call them african american...i think its a lot easier to use black or white...but the thing that gets me is why aren't white people called european americans???

I think it's funny how people feel they need to be politically correct. I, personally, don't care if people call me white or hispanic or whatever. As long as they respect me. (I'm Latina, btw.)
But, what about other races? Indians are 'red', asians are 'yellow', africans are 'blacks', europeans are 'white', hispanics are 'brown' and so on. I think as long as you say it with respect, it shouldn't matter.
But, I guess this debate will always go on.

i dont see anything wrong with it...who gives a shit? we're all people. as long as you dont use it in a rude manner. observe...
okay: person 1: "Which person are you talking about?"
person 2: "You know, the black fellow in our class"
bad: person 1: "I like that one guy in our class"
person 2: "How can you like those blacks!"
see, the "bad" labeled one is quite rude, for it speaks as if all blacks were one person, its collecivist, it is prejudice. Whereas the "okay" labeled one is using it in terms of idenity.

I find this question particularly interesting in relation to other uses of the terms black and white--such as Soundgarden's "fell on black days" (bad days), a 'black heart,' a 'black mark on your record,' and especially 'black magic' (evil magic) and 'white magic' (holy or pure magic.)

Ha you like say something and reply and turn it into something so irrelevant to the subject. hey you know what? I'm going to change the subject because I'm too lazy to start a new post and so I'm jsut going to reply here. I want all you stupid pansys to stop complaining about poseurs, Why the hell do poseurs anger you for? because they are misrepresenting the punk scene? Then do something about it! Don't just stand there and yell profanities at eachother. Instead talk to eachother and come to an understanding where the poseur can see where you are getting at. And if your too lazy to do that like me, then just be careless of it, shrug it off, you know that that person is a "poseur" and so do the other "non poseurs" . Damn you. Damn you all. Oh, and damn all the unregistered people, I get so confused to if it's the same unregistered or not, like that one post, jebus, I mean is it so hard to register? <3

Maybe, if you're a pansy, posing is a whole hell of a lot of fun

More like the opposite. Maybe once the clock finally gets to the fucking time I want it to, then I'll be happy, I lost 5 dollars today.

What time is that? And what did you lose the money on? The superbowl? lotto?
here's another one: black beans

No time, time is mean and cruel
And I lost 5 dollars as in I used to have it and now it's gone somewhere I am not aware of knowing it's location right at this moment.
How is black beans racial? I mean the beans are black aren't they....yeah that's what I thought pansy!

I get it (the clock comment)--like happiness comes from within, so why wait for it? And I was making a funny with the beans thing, ok? Although the beans I ate recently definitely did some rappin'! Now, why are you calling me a pansy? Do you think I'm gay? And/or do you think I pose like a pansy when no one else is around or something?
Finally: you lost your status and now you have none?

I call everyone a pansy, so who cares, I put none on there because there is none.

Shelly, you bring a great point.
Calling someone by their heritage can often times lead to a strong sense of Nationalism. Not to sound like a total conservative jackass, but hardcore feminists and nationalists are really not the kind of people I'm too fond of. What happens is people develop a sense of pride that can clot their sense of good judgment. Being a hardcore nationalist can also lead to flat out rascism. Just look at our 'friend' Adolf Hitler. He basically told the people of Germany, "You are German! You are White! You are better!" and in doing so, started a holocaust in which 12 million people were murdered.
When comes to this sort of thing, I would just say something like Black American, or White American. It is the most fitting term and by placing American after each ethnic group, we have just equalized the two (in a purely oratory sense, it doesn't mean some redneck jackass won't still get off to ridiculing ethnic groups).
It's the same with hardcore feminists as well. Their pride clots their sense of reality. I read an article a while back about some modern day super hero in New York. She was a hardcore feminist. What she did was go around in bars and literally beat up men who wouldn't stop hitting on women. But in doing so, she was going against all she stood for. Isn't feminism about being a strong individual and capable woman? Not having someone else to protect and watch over you?
