Apparently, to be a punk rock group today, you have to be endorsed by Hurley, do MTV promotions, get constant radio-play, ask 12 year-old girls to show you their "boobies" at your shows, write songs about your first date at age 30, and get your testicles removed so you sound punk rock when you sing.

Yes it's very sad whats going on. Some call it the evolutiuon of punk but I call it crap or shit if you will. See before when you tell someone you like punk, assuming that the person you are telling is not punk, they would then say something like "oh so you like the ramones or the sex pistols" and most likely if you like punk this answer would be cool. But now days people are so fucking clueless, you tell them you like punk they respond with "Oh so you like blink and you like to wear hurley stuff" This shit just isnt cool. I blame the people that eat up the garbage the industry crams down their throat. All the industry has to do is play the hell out of a band and give them a catagory name. For instance look what happened to soundgarden. They were arround way before the grunge phase and was once known to be maybe metal or indy music. But as soon as the industry played the shit out of them and gave them a new lable they are now considered a grung band. Yeah I know ...it's fucked! What Im trying to say is dont let the music industry win... listen to what you want and try not to let them do the labelng for us. And if they do lable for us reverse the table on them. Ok fine they want to call Blink punk I say we meet them half way and make a new lable for shitty bands like blink. I say we now call them "Boy band Punk" or better yet lets just refer to them as what they really are just another lame Boy Band!

ahahaha.. i laughed pretty hard reading all that crap.. i was going to quote everyone, but rather than waste space i didnt.. you all Just dont seem to get it.. U.. N.. I.. T.. Y... you understand that?.. unity apply's more than just to people like you... blink's not punk anymore.. they signed to a major label.. ooooh nooooo.. guys.. ramones were on Columbia records.. so obviously the major label has nothing to do with it.. so what if its pop... and its not like Blink tells people its punk to wear hurley.. they've been endorsed by hurley for YEARS guys.. and i've never heard them say "we are so very punk.. so go out and buy hurley clothes and wear them to be punk too".. people decided that for their own.. whether it was because they thought it was punk, or whether they they liked the clothes, who's to say.. but dont come down on any scene because of their clothes.. i've never met a guy in a hurley shirt, tellin me how un punk i was because i wasnt wearin one.. but i've met tons of punks, tellin me how un punk i was because i didnt look like them.. grow up... but way to display your unity guys..

punk.. is .. dead.. and its because of people like you.. i love punk music.. i love the messages it all conveys.. but i dont fit into any scene.. i'm myself.. i dress how i want, listen to what i want.. and believe what i want.. and if i had to be part of a scene.. i sure as hell wouldnt pick punk.. it appears most of the self proclaimed punks are more concered about a persons clothes and what music they listen to, than their ideals and opinions..

and this is in no way directed at the creator of the post, i realised it was a joke as soon as i started readin it.. the people this post is for, will probably be able to figure it out.. and if none of this applies to you, well great.. and if it does, you're not shit.. you're not bad.. ignorant.. stupid.. etc.. i just hope this little diddy makes you think.. and if in the end you come up with the same conclusion.. even better.. at least now you have a little more conviction behind it..

punk is definitely something different than it was in the beginning, frankly i am constantly amazed it is still around. in the beginning i remember punk being about the music. disco was real big, machines played the music. i thought musicians could become a thing of the past. festival type concerts were just about the only place you could hear live music (think cal-jam). i went - a junkie needs his fix. shows with 5, 7, 10 acts lasting all day & night. anaheim stadium had shows all summer long. lynyrd skynyrd, ted nugent, peter frampton, rolling stones, david bowie, kiss, 70's mega-stars.

in '77 things started to stir a bit, more than a punk movement it was an anti-disco thing. sunny california in the 70's did not lend itself well to anarchy. i saw the ramones open for black sabbath in long beach. i had heard of them, cream had started writing about this shit that was going on in new york, i wanted to see what it was they were talking about. fuck - it was so great. lb arena isn't a very intimate place to see a live show, but i felt it. almost everyone hated them, throwing shit at them screaming at them to get the fuck off the stage, i loved all of it, that is where the intimacy grew from, people were nailing the back of my head with beers, screaming at me to sit my ass down. my whole life changed right then.

punk wasn't so much about what you wore, but what you didn't wear. there a was a grassroots sort of feeling, a kinship of strangers, misfits finding a place they might fit. a sort of summer of love amidst the rising me generation. the fact that your jeans did not bear the name of a famous designer was so much more important than how many tatoos, piercings, or zippers you had. we were refusing to be rhinos following the heard - how absurd it would have been to make any rules, there were only anti-rules.

songs started saying something again. maybe just a little, but the overwhelming feeling of apathy started to fade. a new sort of anti-apathy was in the punk - if no one would listen we would get right in their face and scream, that new birth, (innocence?) went by way too fast. at the time it seemed like things couldn't change fast enough.

i could easily see a show every night of the week (pretty much did). clubs were still 18 and over, pay to play had yet to be dreamed up. there were so many clubs too, starwood was my favorite - a small parking lot on the side was enclosed so going in and out between bands was never a hassle. darby sang to me and a few hundred others there for the last time, someone else was planning to kill john lennon. nancy broke up the pistols. a lot of people thought tom petty was punk. elvis costello, blondie and the talking heads were.

was punk better then, not at all. by nature punk has to keep changing, evolving. i could have done without the violence in the early 80's, punks beating up punks; with all the energy, youth and change i don't see how it could have been avoided.

punk has been about a whole lot of things since then, small things that got kids through teen hell, big things that changed an entire music industry, horrible fucking shitty things that cost me too many friends too soon. but in 1977, to a teenager in southern california, punk rock was about the music
