hey my names nick im 19 i live in coasta mesa and ive played bass for seven years and im fuckin good, proably a step down from matt freeman. im looking to start a punk band with heavy hellcat influence. ive listen to a lot of nicer punk like goldfinger and millencolin but i have always wanted to play somethng more punk rock but still melodic. im lookin for open minded punks that fuckin rock at guitar and have good stage presence and have there own gear (like a stack shit like that) so post or email me at nickoleary@hotmail.com

Sounding good is important in a melodic band. I don't understand why everyone thinks they are more knowledgeable in punk than others. Start your band, and don't listen to this idiot that says you don't have to sound good.
Because, in all reality, who wants to go see a band that sounds like shit. Why do these people keep attacking people's posts and musical preferences?

most people say that you dont have to sound good, and people always say melodic punk sucks, just to soundmore "punk" than others or something...but then theyll criticize if you dont play good...and nobody does like to see you play if you suck...you should play what you wanna play and not change just to please anyone but yourself, thats where the "expression" is

Actually, from the sound of it, you got a lot to learn. Lemme give an example:

Everybody who ever saw The Ramones in concert at CBGB's thought that they sucked total asscrack. Eventually they heard them again and the music slowly grew on them.

You cannot just say that punk has to be good. It helps, but it doesn't have to sound like all of you want it to to be punk...

Punk is starting a band with some friends who don't know how to play and totally sucking and people will like you anyway.

Everyone must suck before they can become good. Why look for a good band when you can just make a crappy band better with time?

if talking shit on the internet is punk then avis must be hardcore. dude first of all "punk is a movement" and its not about not caring...it is about caring about yourself and society. and i agree that i would never want to spend money to see a band that i dont like. and the ramones where always good. it was just new music to people.
