. . .OK. . .lets see here. . .
I agree with you, in theory, but lets take a closer look at the situation.
You are right, just because you sign to a major label doesn't mean you've sold out, because if you think about it, all a big label means is that you are good enough musicians that a "big" record company puts faith in you. Way too many people scrutinize the policies of big business, forgetting the important fact: IT'S A BUSINESS! Yes, they are big and multifaceted, yes, they rake in tons of money, but without them many of our favorite bands would never get the recognition they deserve. In many cases, the band "signs" to the label, only to be "put" on one of the subsidiary labels and just distributed though the "mother" business.
OK, I know I went on a tangent, but this is something I've given quite a bit of thought to and feel strongly about.
Now, we label some bands sell outs because they "change" their sound to fit into the "peg hole" of society. Don't any of you stop to think that maybe they were changing their sound anyway, the label caught wind of it, and picked up that band and a few others of the same ilk with in a short period of time so they would have more than one band of a certain genre to promote?
OK, well, I'm done. Weather you agree with me or not, thanks for reading.
