On the music front today, I got into a heated argument about bands "going soft." This is definitely in no way saying they sold out, but simply changed their sound.
The conversation started with one of my friends saying GreenDay "went soft" with Time of Your Life/Good Riddance (which ever you prefer to call it). They then proceeded to tell me that they could get back in go Green Day, but only their "old stuff." Does any one else see something wrong with this? I'm not saying that everyone should like everything that a band they like puts out,(for example, I don't really like the Exploited record Beat The Bastards) but I am saying that If you like some of it, then don't bash the rest. This surrounds you with an air of snobbishness and gives people the impression that you are a close minded prick.
As you could have probably guessed, this started an avalanche of name dropping and band bashing. The most predominantly focused on bands being Green Day and No Use For A Name.
Well, what ever you opinion on "going soft" is, just remember that you may want to give you self the appearance of "top of the food chain" by bashing bands that you see as below you, but what you are really doing in the long run is closing the door on those bands. Unless it was your aim was to look like a two faced son of a bitch who doesn't know how to keep their story straight.
At any rate, I would like to hear what you think of bands that in your opinion have "gone soft".
