HEY! I will be in cali from May 29th -- July 10th. While out there, i want to continue learning to play the drums. Is there anywhere out there good that I could go to, in the 909.

Yeah not a problem at all.

Come over to my house, or I can go to you, doesn't really make a difference.

I don't have a set though so we will have to use your head. It should work just about as good. Oh and I also don't have sticks, but I figure baseball bats will suffice. I'm usually free weeknights after work, but you might want to check just incase.

Let me know.

why dont you just work out rhythm by using pots and pans and using certain parts as certain bits for a drum kit

Larry Miller

You can just get a drum pad and practice your singles, doubles, Paradidles a quadra-fills? If you dont have a drum set you can get time at a rehearsal space (Sound Arena Anaheim or Fullerton)
and practice by yourself or with friends...

Can you play like Chuck Biscuits on the 1st two DOA albums? Now that's a drummer or at least get me started in that direction?

Oh yea!!
Chuck is a heavy influence on me....
saw him back with D.O.A. in the good ol days back at The Nest ...
Are you trying to emulate his style? Cool choice ! Nice hard hitting, driving stlye with plenty of machine gun fills and triples on the kick w/ no double bass pedals....... hate those ......also see.. Clem Burke(Blondie) ,Keith Clarke (later on Circle Jerks) and even Jerry Angel (brief stint w/Dickies) all excellent punk style drummers...

my drummer brakes his cymbols and sticks when he plays.
something tellse me he hits them way too hard.

does this happen to most drummers? broken sticks and Cymbols?

Larry Miller

I dont break to many sticks they ended getting shredded though
from my Hi-Hat. Cymbals it depends on what kind, I found the thick rock crash ones dont really break very often.

Well I am no professional drummer but I can tell you there are certain ways to hit the cymbal.... sticks are cheaper then cymbals so that is not an issue. But buy good solid sticks or use synthetics if they still make them. I used to use aquarian sticks but I like the sound of wood and wood tips, no plastic. Cymbals, I have broken quite a few..... when my mom was cleaning out her garage awhile back I was asked to clean out my old drum area. I must have counted about 20 odd broken cymbals Everything from china cymbals to hi hats, crashes and rides..... to this day I still have a few sets of hi hat cymbals left, Paiste 14" and 15" Rudes, 404's, Zildjian New Beats, Sabian 14"....WOW, I need to do inventory on my gear as I bet I have alot that I aquired throughout the years ....

I break 1-2 sticks everytime I have band practice... Which forces me to buy cheap ones... in return making them break more often... so really I'm on a downward slide...

people break sticks and shit cause they hit rims and break their cymbals because they totally rack on them, instead of slicing it, like should be done.

KillbushTZ

yea, that sounds like alex to me.
he purposely hits the rims of his snare though.
but that slicing thing you said. he should work on that.

yeah hitting the rims on purpose combined with the heads are called "rimshots"

I rimshot (cumshot... hehe!) everytime I hit the snare... actully, now that I think of it, I do it on all the drums. I hate using the slice or slash stroke cuz I drop a lot of sticks that way, and I use drumming as a stress reliever, hitting stuff rules.

yeah sometimes my fucking sticks go flying when i bank rims and shit. i use drumming for stress relieving as well, and you're right, straight up racking on your kit is the best way.haha, fucking right

fuck that sucks, i've cracked many a cymbals, but not for a while. i'm surprised with my zildjian 16" ZBT series. i got it off ebay for 50 bucks, but it fucking rocks. i rack the shit out of it, and still not even a crack. amazing. by the way, we're getting a Pa around $900, a behringer i ithink, let me know if anyone has any advice when it comes to pa's.

Behringer FUCKING ROCKS! I have a little 9-10 track Behinger mixer AND IT'S FUCKING INDESTRUCTABLE. I've spilt soda on it before and it still works like new. It also came with a three year replacement policy, free... I've never had to replace cords or anything like that. I got a Behinger mic too (I can't exactly remember what model), longest lasting-toughtest mic I've ever had. Behinger makes some damn quality equipment.

Dude, that PA is gonna be the shit, trust me.

fuckin rock on god. i always go through muscisians friend to get my gear, and i read most all the reviews on the products and shit. yeah it's the behringer pmh3000, i think. fuckin 800 watts!!!!!
it has more than enough channels , and it's like 20 pounds. so cool man thanks for the reassurance about this product. hey check out our bands website at www.machinegunetiquette.com
and listen to some mp3's. black cash, blown away and waste of life are the best in my opinion. let me know what you guys think. not too fond of our crumbling government.
