just when i thought the scene was dying again... anyway, if you missed the Signal Lost, Scarred For Life, Bad Reaction, Vaginals show last night, your loss!

The Vaginals were a mix of say x-ray spex meets Crass. a very interesting mixture but delivered in a very refreshing but powerful ranting. 3 females in the band on vocals, bass, and drums, and 1 male mohican on guitar. go to this band's next show!

next up was Bad Reaction. tight set, strong on bass/drums, quick vocal tracks, should be a strong band on the scene soon. played a short set, but another one to see at their next show.

Signal Lost from Austin Texas came on next. Tight, strong set. fronted by a female, with another female on bass. powerful delivery. actually, probably the best band out of texas in recent times since spazm 151. really cool people, crowd participation was good.

last on was Scarred For Life... i thought this band turned it in a couple of years back. actually, i've only seen them once after steve stearns left the band. steve was the old drummer from South OC favorite Power Assault. He still needs to finish my tattoo. so, after steve left, they got this big guy, but he wasn't any good on drums, so i stopped going to their shows. I saw a bunch of old faces from OC's past that I haven't seen in years. Scarred For Life is actually filled with punks from the OC/LA seen from the 80's. Raygunn the frontman, is FUCKING CRAZY! he used to play in Glycine Max. i think he's really from Cypress. Mike one of the guitar players is from HB. strong sound coming out of his amp. I think i saw him last playing in HB with the Disrupters. sean, is the bass player, and seem's to be a nut also, jumping off the stage, I think he took about 20 people out. i don't know where he's from, but i overheard a group of kids saying that he's their math teacher. Clyde is the lead guitarist. I remember him playing in the Pig Children. Those fuckers were crazy back in the 80's. he fuckin rips. if you don't believe me, then go to a show and stand in front of his amps, and take notes. but the thing that brings me back to Scarred For Life is their new drummer. I think his name is Mark. they say he was the drummer in the apocalypse. He has a big fucking american indian symbol on his jacket. double kick, but no heavy metal here. just pure fucking volume. he brings back to Scarred For Life what steve stearns took with him when he left. So, for OC bands, Scarred For Life is back! Not a bunch of crusty whining peace punks either. These guys just fucking rip.

If anyone in Scarred For Life reads this, email me, because I want to roadie for you!

This show was bittersweet for the Vaginals because it was our first and unfortunately the last show at the warehouse. We really just started getting out there and have been looking forward to the chance to play there. Unfortunately, there are not enough all ages shows, certainly fewer with the DIY atmosphere, at least not in Long Beach. Speaking for the rest of the band as well, I would like to thank everyone for supporting us as well as the DIY scene.

We really would like to see you at our next show. That is the best compliment we could hope for. We don't have anything solidly planned at this time, but we will soon. you can check our website for upcoming shows, and merch.

This was a good DIY event, no cops or boneheads, inexpensive admission. Hope to see you at our next ALL AGES event, if you're not 21. If you are, we'll be at Alex's Bar on Saturday, 06NOV04.
