We (Riotgun) were supposed to play with them last Saturday (August 6th).
First, the show got moved from Tijuana, because they didn't want to play there, to El Cajon.
Ok, no big deal, so we drive to El Cajon and traffic just SUCKED. Man, it was jammed from about 1/2 way there to the club.

So, get to the club (meetin' hall, grange, bingo parlor, whatever the fuck you want to call it).
No Angry Samoans !!!!!!!!! They cancelled
Turns out it was his 40th birthday, and he had decided that he would quit playing loud rock music when he turned 40.
Guess that day just kind of snuck up on him and he never got a chance to tell anybody. What the fuck...........................................

40? I think Metal Mike is much closer to 50! Nonetheless, that sux!!

i think you're thinking of the guitarplayer. Greg Turner, or one of the other guys who dabbles in guitar. yes, the guitarplayer left. I got word from Metal Mike himself that he left to do some big project with some big rock band.

But they're still doing shows. i'm glad for that matter.
they've got the kid from the Wrecking Crew filling in on guitar for him. i dunno which one, though. i think it's the kid who's been filling in for Frank Agnew Sr. whilst adolescents are touring...but wait, that doesn't make sense...man i'm so confused.

Well, in all honesty, when it comes to issues between Mike and Gregg, I think it's best to either listen to both sides of ANY issue concerning the band, or don't listen to either's opininion exclusivley. They both have had a rediculous grudge for years and years, and it seems that no matter what one says, the other always seems to say the opposite.

In other words, although I like Mike too, I'd take anything he says concerning Gregg with a grain of salt.

first off larry knew the samoans werent playing
a week before hand,
www.thedickies.com dave teague..
go to the news section and you can read about
the guitar player quitting.

the show got moved from TJ because the show the week before with narcoleptic youth/dr know
had only 20 people there.

next time before you put a public post slamming a band that actually added your band to the bill in the first place. know your facts or talk to your singer first

Not sure if that is sarcasm, but I said this kind of stuff when I was sixteen.

well, whatever the facts are, because I have heard about 20 different versions, the show still sucked.
Why is playing at a community center in El Cajon for a bunch of kids that are too cool to even go inside and watch the band better that playing for 20 people in Tijuana.

What I am slamming is the fact that yes, we were added to the bill. I guess we must be good, because we got added. Why did we get our set cut in half, when the headliners (who were they again?) get their whole set. The people that were there, and were actually inside the place liked us, and wanted us to play more. We got kicked off the stage.

Again, what I knew was were were playing on a Saturday in Tijuana with Angry Samoans. What happened was another night of disorganization and having to haul a bunch of equipment a long way to be able to buy a piece of pizza for $2.
(Which I knew somebody did have to organize, and I appreciate that)
The only promo I saw for the show, was promo that we did.

I'm not trying to start any slam fest, and any chance to play music, or go see bands takes a lot of work. Man, do I know this.
I'm just wondering how long until I get that feeling of wondering what the point of it is.

Sorry man, just bummed.

If I got upset at every show... I had to lug equipment to, drive a long distance to, that wasn't organized or promoted, the band only played a 15 minute set and got kicked off or that the band didn't get paid... I would be ONE ANGRY CUNT.

This is the way things are done now. Look at it this way... It's a free practice.

Hey Girl Roadie,

Believe me, I have been doing this for many years. I am very used to every part of playing music, and have been ripped off in every way with the best of them. Why do I keep doing it?
Because I love music. What sucks are people who just barely know enough about the industry who can plug a microphone into a 6 channel mixer and make some sound come out, acting like they are the shit over somebody who has paid way more than their fair share of "the dues" and is up on stage.

I have a right to vent, don't I? This is a forum.

Also, no bashing intended, but when is it a "free practice" when we have a monthly place that we already pay for, but we lug all of our shit for 2 plus hours each way in a van that gets about 3 miles to the gallon, (with gas at almost $3 a gallon). Plus, pay for upkeep on the van. Also, turn down another show to play what turned out to be one of the most amateurish productions I have ever had the misfortune to be a part of?

See ya in the trenches :bash:

Welcome to a new way of setting up shows. where YOU do the promoting and then you have to pay to play for an empty house.

it blows. there are very few connections these days that can get a band somewhere. you just have to know where to look. speaking of which, i've got to make some calls.
