What can be said about Gang Of Four that already hasn't been said? They are the forefathers of angular guitar, bass and drum oriented punk. Everytime you turn around now a days there's a new band coming outta the UK, Scotland, or New York that has taken Gang Of Fours formula and twisted it just a bit to make it there own. With all 4 original members getting up there in years I was a bit worried that they might have slowed down but still had that great groove? As soon as they hit the first note I knew that it wasn't going to be so. With Jon King, the man with the 4 way hips, flying, floping, crawling, and scratching, from one end of the stage to the other it was apparent they hadn't lost anything since the early 80's, when they came to the states. Andy Gill's guitar was as high end, as loud and as in your face as on the vinyl. Dave Allen was in great form on bass and Hugo Burnham, a bit heavier than the old days, was still in good form.
At one point King took a microwave oven and began beating the hell outta it with a guitar. He beat on that thing for the entirety of the song and then he beat on it somemore. Until the guitar he was using was completly demolished. Last night's show was the last show on their tour and I have a feeling they won't be back, which is really too bad because they were well worth the wait.

Looking back on it,

I remember my bass player in Non-Facists
Howard Parker always injecting GOF into
our songs.

3 examples are:

1. Don't Detain
2. Working Girls
3. Self-Inflicted

Sure, we had the "THUNDERS" influence
backed by DAMNED "Theme's" ---> but...
Gang Of Four presence was prevalant...
only because howard parker prayed to
these guys at night. That ain't no shit.

Later, parker influences would be the
Burnette Trio, Bill Haley & His Comets...
and none other than "Gene Vincent".

But in those "EARLY DAYS".....

He prayed to the "GANG OF FOUR"

And I sang it the best I knew how.

I was only 14.

AF,
you were the singer for Non-Fascists? Damn, no wonder you know so much about The Fleetwood and The Church you probably played The Fleetwood? Were you also in the Screwz? Damn, I had no idea? That's really cool. Yeah, I was really, really, young at the time of The Fleetwood as well and missed going there by a few months. A few of my close friends went there, they actually rode their bikes down there, crazy!!! I started going to show right after at the Starwood and Stardust Ballroom, and Whiskey, places like that!!!
