What can be said about Gang Of Four that already hasn't been said? They are the forefathers of angular guitar, bass and drum oriented punk. Everytime you turn around now a days there's a new band coming outta the UK, Scotland, or New York that has taken Gang Of Fours formula and twisted it just a bit to make it there own. With all 4 original members getting up there in years I was a bit worried that they might have slowed down but still had that great groove? As soon as they hit the first note I knew that it wasn't going to be so. With Jon King, the man with the 4 way hips, flying, floping, crawling, and scratching, from one end of the stage to the other it was apparent they hadn't lost anything since the early 80's, when they came to the states. Andy Gill's guitar was as high end, as loud and as in your face as on the vinyl. Dave Allen was in great form on bass and Hugo Burnham, a bit heavier than the old days, was still in good form.
At one point King took a microwave oven and began beating the hell outta it with a guitar. He beat on that thing for the entirety of the song and then he beat on it somemore. Until the guitar he was using was completly demolished. Last night's show was the last show on their tour and I have a feeling they won't be back, which is really too bad because they were well worth the wait.
