I've been sick again and missed going out on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I needed to go see a show.
The lineup was billed as Bad Reaction, California Redemption, Future Primitive & Don't Be A Menace. But CARE ended up being replaced with Great Success. ugh....
For some reason the show was held at the downstairs venue in front of, but not on the stage.

Great Success was up first.
I grew to hate them very quickly.
Straight up metal/screamo/"new hardcore". Whatever the fuck you want to call it. They used the growl/scream black metal/screamo voice. Fuck that gets old quick. Played one song three times. All three times sucked. :thmdown: :thmdown: :thmdown:
Their only saving grace was that they had a kid in a banana costume jumping around and their friends kept tackling the singer.

Next up was Don't Be a Menace. Same type up thing just without the growling. This shit is terrible. And they brought friends with them.
This was the most unintentionally funny thing I've ever seen.
They were doing that "new hardcore" karate-dance!!!!
I laughed so hard I almost cried. The kids would strut from side to side punding their hands on the ground and then when the music slowed down they ran to the middle of the floor to their pre-designated spots and started punching the air and doing karate kicks in place. FUCKING HILARIOUS!!!
This and also had a saving grace, a giant stuffed penguin that was ripped open during the first song to produce "snow".

For their second trip to Ventura in 2 weeks, Bad Reaction handed over their headlining spot again.
Always an awesome live band. If you haven't seen 'em yet, do yourself a favor. Played all their stuff including a cover of "Myage" and ending with "Pay To Cum". During "Street Cred", Kash handed the mic to every single person there.

Sorry, Ricky, this strange and disturbing dance does not photograph well. All evidence has been left on the cutting room floor.

From UrbanDictionary:

throw down - Used to define when hardcore kids dance to hardcore music. Often kicking and punching. Spin kicking, etc.

hardcore kid - a young person who listens to frantic and hevy music. when at gigs, a hardcore kid will punch an kick the air in a spectacular fashion.

Two Step - A dance done to Ska music that the scenester sluts and "hardcore" kids stole and added a "hXc air punch!" to. It does not work with hardcore music and people look stupid while doing it to hardcore music, especially modern hardcore music that isn't really hardcore.

2-step - A type of hardcore dancing that takes place during shows in the circle pit. The dancing consists of a running in place movement with the occasional violent movement, such as a kick or punch.

hardcore dancing - To look like an idiot at hardcore shows, while punching the air and ground. Hardcore dancers will not actually watch the band play, they would rather imagine they are fighting invisible bad guys. Often times hardcore dancers will ruin the show for anyone that is not hardcore dancing. But they do not care because they think the world revolves around them.

Hardcore Dancing - hardcore dancing is a sort of pretend fighting that wimping emo kids are forced to perform at metal shows cause their to pussy to go in the real fight circle and actually hit someone

hardcore kid - A 14-22 yr old who goes to strictly concerts with hardcore bands. They take turns punching and kicking air during the songs. They think they're badass but knock one down and they'll start to cry.

hardcore dancing - A type of dance you do at a show to look completely stupid. Consisting of flailing arms and legs that pierce the air to come into contact with absolutely nothing. This is a must when you go to a hardcore show.

Hardcore Dancing - Hardcore Dancing is a bunch or retards punching and kicking air. It's laughable. Yeah you gotta be in shape to do it and it hurts like hell to get hit, but it looks retarded. I love going to shows to mosh rather than flail my arms around to nothing. Hardcore Dancing sucks and I hate going to hardcore concerts because of it.

These are great explanations Riff. I've seen footage of this type of thing...Does the song, "Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting...." pop into your heads as it does mine? I am still thrown off by the term "Hardcore" as it is used today. I always associated the term with fast paced,in your face punk rock. It's interesting to hear what people call hardcore music today. Sounds like Chugga Chugga Metal stuff to me. Maybe someone can elaborate better than I can here. Thanks, Confused.

Yeah, it is the chugga chugga metal with the growling "singer" and some breakdowns.

I used to work with this kid who told me he was into "hardcore" and went to lots of shows.Turned out he liked Avegned Sevenfold and Atreyu. I was shocked. I played Black Flag one day and he said "that's not hardcore".
Sad, really.

From our "Viewpoint" on-stage at the "FLEETWOOD"--

Those kids, especially the ones that "Closed Ranks" on each other...
that erupted in a "Free-for-all" fist/kick fight....is REAL CLOSE!

But "PICTURE THAT" ---and-- a Free wheeling "MOB" of "Bee-Hive"
and "HORNETS" nest of punks, kicking, throwing punches.....V.C. Style!

AND PICTURE "MIKE NESS" on the ground...taking the blows...
(He could take a punch) --and the "SWARM" of H.B. Kids roving..
and.....you HAVE a "CLEAR PICTURE" of what the BANDS saw....

at the FLEETWOOD.

ah yes! ---> such VIOLENCE!

Ouch! Haha! That hurts man! Those are rough mixes and I plan to redo my portion of the guitars. To me the mix has the guitars a bit "Muddy". I am not a fan of the mass quantities of distortion that radiate from the speakers on those. I am a big fan of the earlier analog recordings where there was a warmer sound. Thanks for bringing that to my attention though! Cheers!
