I just recieved this bulletin over on Myspace:

Don Bolles Emergency! Important! Bad News!
This past Wednesday night Don Bolles suffered a bizarre and unfortunate interception with the Newport Police Department. He was stopped for a broken tail light. We believe his unconventional looks and old army green van made him the victim of police profiling in this very affluent, quiet town. They searched his van. The only thing they found was a bottle of Dr Bronner’s soap. If you are a good friend of Don’s, you know this is the only cleaning agent he uses for every thing from tooth paste to laundry detergent. The police ran a drug field test on the soap and it came up positive. Dr. Bronner’s is made with hemp seed oil. Maybe this is the reason behind the arresting officer’s error. I spoke with someone who is familiar with forensic drug tests. They said the field test is not absolutely accurate. There are two other drug tests that need to be conducted on the soap. Also, the drug they are ascertaining that Don is in possession of is unusable in a soap base. He is being charged with a felony. His bail is $25,000. He could get up to 20 years in prison. This is very serious. Through a bail bonds company his bail is 2,500 dollars. Currently we have roughly 1,000 dollars. He is now being held at the Orange County jail. This is not a safe place for Don. I talked to the Police yesterday at the holding facility. Their attitude was harsh. Don is innocent. This is truly a horrible and sad incident. I spoke with Don a number of times. He is in utter disbelief that this is happening to him. We are asking friends if they could make a contribution of 10-20 dollars or more to help get him out of jail as soon as possible so he can seek legal assistance. The ingredients are plain as day.

Ingredients: Water, Saponified Organic Coconut & Olive oils (w/ retained Glycerin), Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Natural Bitter Almond Fragrance, Citric Acid, Vitamin E

I talked to a good friend that works for Orange County Legal Aid, who said they cannot handle criminal cases but gave a # to Legal Resolution Network 714-571-5204 that gives a 30 min free consultation and can perhaps refer an attorney. Depending on Don's income, the legal help could be pro bono. This could also been seen as a high profile case, therefore I will contact a few attorneys I know for an opinion. I have left a message for the manufacturer to see if they can issue a statement on their ingredients. It might also help to get a little media coverage.

i also got this bulletin and sent it to scott to see what he could do,Don is not used to the o.c. and is used to being pampered so we must do what we can? has he been arraigned yet? depending on his past record he could be let go in a couple of days..thanx riff for the post-eggy

Somebody contact the OC WEEKLY immediatly, they love this kind of stuff, they will put the Newport police thru the ringer on this, I'm at work and have only minutes, if somebody else can get on it, also, call the OC Register, once the cops find out that they are being mad asses of themsleves the tide will change real fast!

Good Job oop, I dont always agree with the OC weekly, but I always enjoy a good read, and when it comes to stuff like this, they will rip the police to pieces on this.

Otherwise, glad to help out, Don did sound for my bands more times then I can count at the Cathay, I guess I can return the favor someway.

Better yet contact the L.A. Weekly. Big Brother Might have better connections. It seems this whole thing reeks of an April fools Joke.
If "ALL THIS IS" legit the joke is gonna be on the damn Newport Police.

Two calls should be made on Dons behalf.

First should be the ACLU. They will be so far up the police departments ass they will be peaking out their nose.

Second should be Dr. Bronners soap. Get that company themselves involved. They have a big financial interest in this. If a loyal user of their product is imprisoned that is very bad PR. I believe that that company would possibly pay for a decent lawyer themsevles. Maybe even have one or two on their staff.

I have my reasons to "dislike" OC cops, but:
Is he busted under the name "Don Bolles"? There was no "Don Bolles" on www.ocsd.org under "e-Sevices, Who's In Jail"
Also, why would they test soap?

Not sure what name he used, but Pat Fear from WHITE FLAG says that he is in fact in jail which might jeopardize the GERMS/WHITE FLAG/ZEROS U.K./Europe summer tour. Pat Fear is going to visit him today to see what he can do.

This story is so outrageous... SOAP?! Welcome to Orange County... if this had happened in LA he would have been let go almost as soon as he was pulled over.

I called the Orange County Sheriff and they said the bail has been posted. I asked why he was arrested...they said possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and violation of a restraining order. He is getting released right now. They have not set a court date but generally it's a month later. I am a bit suspicious about the soap story. Before I can wholeheartedly defend someone I would like to get the complete facts. If anyone has additional details, please reply.

holy crap!
this really is true. i was holding out, and i was considering going to the jail and asking him myself.

i wanna help any way i can, but i have no idea what i can do.
if anyone needs assistance with this effort, i'm all ears.
but oc weekly will definitely raise some awareness among the loudest people.
